Guiding Technical Change: A Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe Coaching Course

A key coaching skill is being able to first, identify what technical adjustments will help an individual move more efficiently and then, secondly, have an effective approach to direct the desired change.  In this class, World Champion dragon boat coach, Andrea Dillon, guides participants through her method of identifying and addressing technical adjustments in dragon boat and outrigger paddling.  A small class of six and the use of a paddling ergometer and other tools will create an interactive and hands-on environment.

About Andrea:

Andrea Dillon is Canada’s, and perhaps the World’s, most experienced National Team dragon boat coach having coached at nine of 13 IDBF World Championships and winning countless medals! She and Kamini co-coached the Canadian SrC program last cycle and also the Premier National Team program before that. As well as her 32 years of experience in dragon boat, Andrea brings years of outrigger and marathon canoe proficiency to her coaching, giving her a multi-facetted, well-informed approach to body, paddle, boat and team dynamics.

Training Program Writing Workshop: For Any Paddlesport

Preparing a training program is a daunting task for most coaches.  The coaching courses I have facilitated to date have been one-day or weekend courses after which the participant is sent home with an assignment they frequently feel unprepared to complete.  In my experience, this has often lead to frustration, a lack of confidence and an incomplete assignment.

In this three-session course, the goal is to decrease the frustration and increase the learning by shorter information sessions and easer at-home tasks. Participants will learn the fundamentals of training program writing for paddlesports and work toward creating their own season plans.  In a small class of six, Kamini will discuss the considerations required in programming and how factors are put together to make a program well-directed toward a paddler’s or team’s goals. There will be a workbook and some take-home thinking projects designed to make the most of our face-to-face time.

The dates for the class are all Fridays:

  • February 22nd

  • March 1st

  • March 8th

from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm.  Participants must be able to attend all three.

Pre-requisite: Having attended a Dragon Boat Canada Coaching Community Dragon Boat course.  Homework completion not required.  Or, for coaches of other paddlesports, some elementary background knowledge on training program composition is required please.

Price: $220 + 5% GST

This course is currently full.  Please email Kamini to be put on a waiting list or to be notified of further offerings.
